Professional:
Health and Healing Practitioner, Educator / Speaker,
Business Owner,  Business Coach for Emerging Practitioners

Cynthia is a pioneering practitioner and coach, committed to sleuthing right down to the core of people’s concerns around food, body, weight and common health concerns.  With a “tenderness meets take-action-now” style, she works with people privately, leads groups and talks to just about anyone who thinks nutrition and psychology are cool.

The History……

Cynthia has been a professional in the nutrition industry for over 11 years, and Eat Empowered, LLC is her second business adventure.  The first, Cynfully Healthy, was founded in 2003 as a private practice in Manhattan, serving a wide variety of clients seeking nutritional counseling and lifestyle coaching.

In addition to running Cynfully Healthy,  her New York City romp included 3 years as the Director of Nutrition Services for a holistic center providing acupuncture, herbs, yoga and stress reduction techniques to treat infertility and reproductive disorders.

During this time, Cynthia honed in on her flair and passion for teaching by speaking to groups large and small all over the metro New York area.  She has appeared in magazines, local TV programs, and had her own nutritional/wellness column on http://elasticwaist.com.

Once Cynthia landed in Boulder, CO, she worked very closely with Marc David, master Nutritionist and expert in the field of Eating Psychology.  She had the great pleasure to assist him in launching The Institute for the Psychology of Eating in Boulder, CO.  She served as Senior Educator for the Institute and Business Coach for new practitioners for a couple years.  Please visit http://psychologyofeating.com for more information.

Her work as a business coach started many years ago when began getting lots of questions about how she built her private practice in Manhattan.  She realized she loved helping new practitioners, so for four years became an Immersion Business Mentor, coaching the second-year students,  at The Institute for Integrative Nutrition.  Following her time on staff there, she branched out into working with practitioners privately and still presently works with many practitioners around the country.   If you are a practitioner in business for two years or less,  read more about how you can work with Cynthia on the Business Coaching page.

Cynthia is presently a featured Health Presenter for a neutraceutical industry leader, Nutrilite.    She travels to every nook and cranny across the country teaching business owners about nutrition, health and the vast benefits of the masterfully formulated Nutrilite products.

Personal: Recovered Binge Eater, PMS and Chronic Sinus Infection Sufferer

Letter from Cynthia

In case you are wondering how I came to do what I do professionally…

Let me explain how my personal history got me to where I am today.

At my highest weight and in the throws of my eating disorder, 28lbs heavier than I am currently

I am here now and joyful to be in a position to guide others mainly because of what I went through personally. I spent years agonizing over my weight and body image. I could down a box of Entenmann’s donuts without blinking an eye and then went on to polish off a pack of cookies – all at midnight. There were days I would not get out of bed and could not see ever living peacefully in my body.

My PMS ruined me every month with emotional swings and physical symptoms. At least 4 times a year I would get a debilitating sinus infection that floored me for days, not to mention feeling like I had a never-ending cold. Chronic constipation went right along with this imbalanced package and kept me bloated and uncomfortable most of the time.

And I thought all of this was normal, how most women lived.

I saw many doctors and each one had a new drug to give me to clear up this or that.  The funny thing is that it all came right back a few months later.  I saw a few nutrition practitioners, but the healing stopped short after I left the office with some foreign meal plan that had no relevance to my tastes, needs or practical ability to follow the crazy thing.

So, thankfully I found a new approach, which did not wrap up in a nice neat package.

My healing came from the combination of several modalities:

  • I slowly and peacefully changed my diet with the help of a loving, non-judgemental counselor.
  • I took Chinese herbs, which did wonders for my sinuses.
  • I took a good hard look at what was truly driving my eating habits and where my “wheel of life” was not rolling smoothly.
  • I chose to see my body as a goddess temple instead of my worst enemy and I worked intensely on changing the negative thoughts in my head.
  • I breathed, stretched and found new forms of exercise that truly jazzed me (no pun intended).
  • I learned how to meditate.
  • I tried to take everything a little less seriously and focus on all the gifts I had right in front of me.

I am now pain-free with clear sinuses, happy monthly periods and maintaining the weight I know my body wants to be. Quite frankly, I never thought I would say that.

Healing does not come from just a pill or band-aid approach.

It requires active participation by the individual through one or more modalities. However, who says you have to do it alone? I would have never come through without the teachers, healers and counselors that helped me along my journey. I still have several of them to this day!

Eat Empowered, LLC was created to give back so much of what I have learned.

Passions: Dancer, Skiier (well, sort of) and Hiker

From Manhattan to Boulder, CO (since 2008), who knew fresh air was so important!  I have learned to love the Colorado mountain air and enjoy that my doggie, Omega, is one of those dogs that hikes right next to me without terrorizing the other dogs on the trail.  Skiing is a fairly new adventure and although I love it,  I have not yet attempted any moguls.

Yes, that is me with the blond wig in the middle! West Side Story 1998

In my former life, you may have seen me on stage, TV or even a movie clip here and there. Check out the little skinny kid with the beehive and green eye shadow dancing in the movie, “Hairspray.” (the original with Ricki Lake, not the John Travolta one!)   I spent several years traveling around with musicals, cruise ships and dance performances. My favorite…West Side Story…ay ay ay!

With dancing as my first passion, I entered into the fitness world and became an A.C.E. Certified Fitness Instructor, teaching a fun, kick-your-butt type of cardio dance class for years on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

I still dance, but may not do a high kick quite as high.
